I've just had the shock of my life. I wanted a spare key for my Fiat Ducato based motorhome. That's the key ,not the remote 'zapper'.I called the local dealer, told him the registration and he said that would be about £200.00 plus £90.00 for re-programming! 'That's around £300.00 for a key' I said.
5. Wait 30 seconds for the programming cycle and programming mode to close. The first two keys are internally (inside the ECU) designated as MASTER keys and the 3rd key inserted will be internally designated as the VALET key. As a test, when you insert a MASTER key, the security light. should stop blinking right away.
For a quick recap, you need to sit in the car, lock with remote key fob, pull passenger (inside) door handle, then lock with remote again. Repeat this until the fob stops responding, then stick key in ignition start car, stop car, remove key and repeat the process until the door finally opens.

Pull the panel off to reveal a small set of fuses (see the back of the panel for the fuse map). To power down the central locking you need to remove the Dome Light fuse, this is located top left. Second one down 7.5 amps. (if in doubt remove the top two 7.5 amp fuses I did) When you remove the fuse (s) you will notice the interior light go out
The quick fix is to heat the fob up somehow once it reaches a certain temp it will work as if the problem was non existent. It may be a indication the battery is low but without fail just about every Nissan. Fob has this problem in the cold. Haven’t experienced it much with Subaru but my guess is it’s the same issue.
Recently I purchased a '06 Ducato van and the ignition has been changed out with a starter switch and push ignition start button. Key for the barrel still needed for the steering lock. I'm not sure at all what they've done to it electronically.. Obviously before purchase I did a Is It Stolen check and believe they genuinely lost the key.

Fault with the key fob: If the locks on all doors suddenly stop working or responding, the key fob may be to blame. A dead battery or a malfunction may prevent the fob from sending a signal; in this case, the key fob may need to be reprogrammed or replaced. Blown fuse: A blown fuse could be the cause of door locks not working.
